About the Writing Humour: It's Not That Ha Ha Hard Workshop

Everyone has a sense of humour but does your humour make any sense? Oliver will go through some techniques of how to come up with some ideas for jokes, weird characters and wacky story lines. There’s a little bit of drawing from your own experiences, actual drawing of characters and more. Discover how easy it is to inject some laughs into your writing.

About the Creating Unforgettable Villains Workshop

Villains come in all forms from the mean kid at school to creepy one-eyed monsters! Creating an unforgettable villain will drive the conflict in your story. In this fun writing workshop (and a little drawing), Catherine will show you tips and tricks to create a villain that will leap off the page!

About Oliver Phommavanh

Oliver Phommavanh loves to make people laugh, whether it’s on the page writing humour for kids or on stage as a stand-up comedian. He also shares his passion for writing with kids, using his experience as a primary school teacher. Oliver has performed at various comedy and writers festivals around Australia and Asia. Oliver’s recent books include Brain Freeze, Don’t Follow Vee and Natural Born Loser, and he is best known for Thai-riffic!, Con-nerd and The Other Christy.

About Catherine Pelosi

Catherine is the Sydney-based author of middle-grade novel, Quark’s Academy and picture book, Something for Fleur. She adores teaching writing to young people and has been a speaker at several events including the Sharjah Children's Festival - twice, CBCA events, as well as writing festivals including Writers, Unleashed. Children’s books, in Catherine’s opinion, are the best. They are the ones that shape us, give us hope, help us find our place in the world…and, take us away to wonderful places. They can also be read by everyone, which she loves.
